Giant bird takes up residency in yard. *

Looks like someone new just moved into one of the pine trees in the back yard. We have seen this big bird in and around the yard for the past week. So far, we haven’t noticed a decrease in the chipmunk population but lets hope they read this post and keep an eye on the sky.

Did you know that January 5 is National Bird Day? It’s true! National Bird Day was established to help raise awareness of birds facing extinction and to foster a greater appreciation of our feathered friends.

From the National Bird Day website:

“National Bird Day is not only a good day to take time to appreciate the native wild birds flying free outside our windows, it is also a perfect time to reflect on how we treat the native birds of other countries.”

We are fortunate here in Columbia County and the surrounding area to have many birds that remain in the area through the winter months. These winter months, when food is at its scarcest, are the perfect time to keep your bird feeders filled. The more birds you feed during the winter, the more you will see come Spring.
